Genetics Disorder Research Sheet

This unit project focuses on how genetics affects humans directly.  Many people are affected by genetic disorders; you may even have some family members or friends with some of these diseases.  I suggest that you choose a disorder that affects someone you know or intrigues you because it is strange or interesting.  The goal is to research the disorder and orally present information and recent research through a PowerPoint, comic strip, poster, brochure, research paper, poem, rap, or storyboard. You must complete the graphic organizer below first then pick one of the above ways to present the information you have gathered.

Examples to choose from but are not limited too: Alzheimer’s Disease, Angelman Syndrome/ Prader-Willi Syndrome, Celiac Disease (Celiac Sprue), Down Syndrome (Trisomy 21), Huntington Disease, Klinefelter Syndrome (XXY Syndrome), Parkinson’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease, Tay-Sachs Disease, Triple-X Syndrome (Trisomy X), Turner’s Syndrome,  or XYY Syndrome

  2. Definition in your own words
  3. Picture to represent the vocabulary word
  4. 4 colors at least are used
  5. Prefixes/Suffixes with meaning
Friday: You need to make the following vocabulary cards: hypothesis, phenomena, cell theory, and microscope. You will need to read pages 6-11 and complete the " Discovering Cells" worksheet (see below). Make sure you are reviewing your vocabulary cards everyday.
